Entire opposition led by the Congress and BJP questioned the propriety of taking up the confidence motion as election schedule has been announced for the state assembly and Lok Sabha.BJP urged the Speaker to disqualify three of its members who have pledged their support to Naveen Patnaik Government after resigning from the party. In the midst of the acrimonious debate over the propriety of taking up of the motion, the Speaker Kishore Kumar Mohanty all of a sudden put the trust motion for the consideration of the House and it was passed through a voice vote. Opposition got annoyed with the decision of the Speaker, Congress and BJP walked of the House before it was adjourned sine-die.CM Naveen Patnaik of BJD on Wednesday won the vote of confidence in the state assembly by voice vote as Opposition staged a walk-out terming the exercise as 'murder of democracy'. Patnaik said he enjoyed the support of more than 74 legislators in the 147-member assembly and was facing the floor test as directed by Governor M C Bhandare.

Terming the passage of the motion as 'murder of democracy', Leader of BJP legislator party Biswabhushan Harichandan said his party wanted a division of votes but the whole exercise was handled in a hurried manner.
