India works for clean waiver for nuke commerce.2008-09-05 10:15:20 - India is at sight to have a clean waiver from the 45 member nuclear suppliers group for doing nuclear commerce which is likely to end India's nuclear isolation for the last 34 years.

NSG countries will continue their deliberations on second day on Friday on granting a clean waiver to India. The differences in the 45 members Nuclear Suppliers Group have reduced considerably and experts are hopeful of a consensus on the issue to facilitate India's nuclear commerce with other countries.

Washington on Thursday said that NSG is making progress towards an agreement
on the clean waiver. US officials have been lobbying with other countries for a one time waiver to India.

Meanwhile New Delhi has made it clear that it will never compromise on India's sovereignty on the Indo-US civil nuclear deal. Talking to newsmen in New Delhi Thursday evening, the Minister of State for External Affairs Mr. Anand Sharma defended India's right to conduct nuclear tests. Mr.Sharma hoped that India will get a clean waiver from the 45 member nuclear suppliers group for doing nuclear commerce thus ending New Delhi's nuclear isolation for the last 34 years.

NSG works by consensus and even if one country opposes the waiver, the move will be scuttled.Indian officials said while all efforts will be made to allay the apprehensions of the sceptic countries, India will not accept the waiver if it is laden with conditions.India says the revised draft should be able to address the apprehensions that some of the countries have.New Delhi maintains that if any country has any non-proliferation issues, those can be sorted out with them when bilateral agreements are signed.
